Log Cabin / Creekside / Family Friendly / Hiking / Biking / Camping / Secluded
Hickory Spring is a magnificent Appalachian-style log home safely tucked in a private, secluded valley on 150 acres of pristine forest*. Numerous hiking and mountain biking trails wind through the property and feature streams, rock outcroppings, a waterfall and wetland, views, and even a cantilevered rock cave! It's the perfect getaway for your family or group to savor a tranquil, mountain setting.
The master bedroom is dramatically set in a timber frame dormer, and the en-suite bath has a touch of urban sophistication. Enjoy the sound of the creek from your bedroom, and relax on the cozy porch bed, big enough for two. The living area has a double-story ceiling and wood-burning fireplace. In the loft is the TV/media area and small office. Both main level bedrooms feature hand-hewn log walls and plenty of natural light.
Generous verandas allow for outdoor dining even on rainy days, and a fire in the stone fire pit across from the house will help warm your evenings. As well, you'll find a hammock, picnic table, and comfortable seating for enjoying the outdoors. There is a charming sleeping cabin available for an extra charge of $25 a night.
Pets are welcome at an additional charge. Around the old goat barn behind the cabin is a secure fenced area for dogs over 25 lbs.
Enjoy swimming and boating in nearby Lake Lure as well as the stunning views and hikes of Chimney Rock State Park. In the Asheville area, the Biltmore Estate is well worth a visit. Asheville is home to a vibrant music scene, good restaurants, and a thriving craft brewery industry. Brewery tours, concerts and festivals can be found in the area all year long.
*Note: About 1/3 of the land on this property was visited by the NC forest fires in late 2016. Fortunately very few of the trees will be lost, and with a lot of nutrients liberated, there will be abundant regrowth in 2017. None of the effects of the fire are visible from the cabin. You’ll need to hike the road or trails to see the burned areas (and the revival!) up close… a good chance to see the forest’s natural cleansing process at work.
